Spartan Boiler & Mechanical is the premier commercial and industrial mechanical contractor specializing in boiler systems, steam plant construction, process piping, and pressure vessel fabrication throughout the Central United States.
Spartan maintains an NBIC "R" Certificate and ASME "S" and "U" Certificates, allowing our craftsmen to perform Code repairs, alterations, fabrication and new construction of power boilers and pressure vessels.
We are seeking an experienced Industrial Pipefitter / Welder with strong mechanical ability and a commitment to quality craftsmanship.
Previous boiler experience is not required.
If you can fit pipe, weld, read drawings, solve problems in the field, and produce work that is clean, plumb, level, square, and professionally supported, we can teach you boiler systems, steam systems, and ASME/NBIC Code work.
We will train you on our equipment. We do not train work ethic or pride in craftsmanship.
This position includes shop and field work involving commercial and industrial boiler installations, steam piping, process piping, equipment replacements, and Code repairs. Occasional overnight travel is required.
What You'll Do
Fabricate and install welded and threaded piping systems
Lay out, fit, and install carbon steel piping and fittings
Perform SMAW welding in shop and field conditions
Read piping drawings, blueprints (occasionally drawn on a napkin), specifications, and equipment manuals
Install piping that is clean, plumb, level, square, and properly supported
Install boilers, pumps, valves, tanks, heat exchangers, and related mechanical equipment
Perform boiler pressure-part repairs under ASME/NBIC procedures
Perform boiler tube replacement and other mechanical repairs
Rig and position piping and heavy mechanical equipment
Work independently and as part of a field crew
Accurately document work performed
Maintain company tools, welding equipment, and vehicles
Follow welding procedures and safety requirements without exception

Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record
Ability to pass required background screening and drug testing
Industrial or commercial pipefitting and/or welding experience
Ability to read a tape measure and perform field layout accurately
Working knowledge of pipe, fittings, flanges, valves, and piping systems
Ability to perform SMAW welding
Ability to successfully complete a 6G SMAW welding qualification within 120 days of employment
Ability to perform physically demanding field work
Willingness to travel overnight when required
Demonstrated history of dependable employment
Preferred Qualifications
Special consideration will be given to candidates with:
6G SMAW welding experience
Strong 6010 and 7018 capability
Industrial steam piping experience
ASME Section I or Section VIII experience
NBIC repair experience
Pressure vessel fabrication experience
Boiler installation or repair experience
Rigging experience
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
Prior Military Service
Military Welding Background
(U.S. Navy HT, UT, SW, CM)
(Army 91E, 12K, 91B, 91D, 91C)
